Jakarta, Indonesia (Trip Details)

Numbers to Networks is a short, hands-on applied mathematics program that teaches students how to use math to reason, model situations, and solve real-life problems in their communities. Mathematics is the core focus of the program, while technology is used only as a supporting tool for learning, and basic financial contexts are introduced to show how math connects to everyday decisions. This page summarizes the Jakarta implementation and how we deliver the program.

Program Overview

What it is

A short, partner-led, offline-friendly program that helps students build practical technology skills and problem-solving habits. Sessions focus on real tasks that support learning, communication, and future opportunities.

Program identity

Numbers to Networks helps learners build confidence with technology through practical tools, mentorship, and problem-solving grounded in real life.

Skills that transfer

We focus on usable skills like basic computer use, spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and clear communication, so students can apply them right away.

Adaptable delivery

Lessons are designed to work in low-resource settings, with materials and workflows that can be adjusted to each partner site.
Curriculum Modules

Four days, partner-driven delivery

Day 1 - Arrival and preparation

Team orientation, final coordination with partner sites, and setup of teaching materials. We organize learning kits, confirm session flow, and prepare resources so tutoring runs smoothly across locations.

Day 2 - Refugee technology and applied skills tutoring (Day 1)

Tutoring at Refu+ture Library focused on foundational technology and applied skills, including basic computer use, spreadsheets for everyday tasks, presentation tools, typing, and one-on-one support. Later, we visit PAKB Orphanage for a community session with structured activities and hands-on learning designed to build confidence and engagement.

Day 3 - Refugee technology and applied skills tutoring (Day 2)

Sessions continue at Refu+ture Library with a new group, reinforcing mathematics application, document creation, and online communication skills relevant to education and work. We return to PAKB Orphanage for continued learning activities, followed by a visit to Aksinyata Pakubuwono to engage students through interactive workshops and discuss how Numbers to Networks-supported tools and resources can support ongoing learning.

Day 4 - Wrap-up and handoff

Program closeout with partner sites, final notes on what worked, and handoff of materials for continued use. We consolidate feedback and outline next steps for follow-up support where appropriate.
